1 〔譲り合って物事を解決すること･妥協〕 (a) compromise; (an) agreement; an understanding; a settlement; a trade-off.

●(相手と)折り合いがつく come to terms [an understanding, an agreement] 《with…》; arrive at [reach] an understanding [(an) agreement] 《with…》; reach [come to] an accommodation 《with…》

・値段の折り合いがつく settle [agree] on a price; come to an agreement on a price

・3 年契約ということであの会社とうまく折り合いがついた. We came to a satisfactory agreement [compromise] with that company for a three-year contract.

・価格の点で両社はまだ折り合いがつかないでいる. The two companies have not been able to settle [agree on, come to a compromise on] the (question of) price.

・ここはなんとか折り合いがつかないものかね. Can't you come to some kind of compromise [settle the matter somehow]?

・あの夫婦は今のところ折り合いがよい. That couple are getting on well so far.

・妻は僕の母とあまり折り合いがよくない. Relations between my wife and my mother are rather strained [not too good]. | My mother and my wife don't get on very well.

・彼女は両親との折り合いが非常に悪い. She's on terrible terms with her parents. | She and her parents get on extremely badly [don't get on at all].
